iPhone, iPad, and Android listing screenshots

A universal app still uploads separate images. Apple scales a 6.9-inch iPhone set down to smaller iPhones, and a 13-inch iPad set down to smaller iPads. It does not turn an iPhone file into an iPad file. Google Play will not take that iPhone file either: 1290×2796 is taller than Play's 2:1 cap. Write the story once, then export a canvas for each slot you actually ship.

Last updated October 6, 2026. Pixel tables: App Store screenshot sizes and Google Play screenshot sizes. Slide order: what to put on each slide.

The short version

  • One 6.9-inch iPhone set covers smaller iPhones. One 13-inch iPad set covers smaller iPads. Those are two uploads.
  • iPhone 1290×2796 and iPad 2064×2752 are different shapes. The iPhone file does not belong in the iPad slot.
  • Play phone is a third shape, 1080×2160, plus a 1024×500 feature graphic. The iPhone PNG is too tall for Play.
  • Reuse the story and the headlines. Recapture when the UI itself changes, such as an iPad sidebar.

The slots that matter

Most indie apps need two or three canvases, not a file for every device Apple and Google have ever shipped. Start from where the binary runs.

Listing screenshot canvases for iPhone, iPad, and Android
ListingPractical canvasWhen you need it
iPhone1290×2796Yes, for an iPhone app. Apple scales this 6.9-inch set to smaller iPhones.
iPad2064×2752When the app runs on iPad. Apple scales this 13-inch set to smaller iPads.
Play phone1080×2160Yes, to publish on Google Play, plus a 1024×500 feature graphic.
Play tablet9:16 or 16:9, 1080px and upOptional for a phone launch. Separate 7-inch and 10-inch slots.

An iPhone-only App Store app stops after the 6.9-inch set. The moment the target includes iPad, add the 13-inch set. Play always wants phone screenshots and the feature graphic, even when you skip tablets.

What you can reuse

Safe to share

  • The slide order and the promise on slide 1.
  • Headlines, if they are short enough for the narrower frame.
  • Background, type style, and the device-frame treatment.
  • iPhone captures across smaller iPhones. Apple scales the 6.9-inch set.

Export again

  • iPad gets its own 2064×2752 file, even with the same headline.
  • Play phone gets a 1080×2160 file. 1290×2796 fails the 2:1 cap.
  • The feature graphic is 1024×500 and is not a screenshot.
  • Portrait and landscape stay in separate sets. Do not mix them in one slot.

Changing the canvas also changes how much of the frame the phone occupies. A headline that sits cleanly beside a tall iPhone can collide with a wider iPad. Check each export at 100% before you upload it.

When the capture has to change

Drop the same UI image into a new frame only when that screen looks the same on the larger device. Recapture when the layout actually changes.

  • iPad uses a sidebar, split view, or a second column. An iPhone capture inside an iPad frame advertises a phone app.
  • Android uses a different navigation bar, back gesture, or permission sheet. Play visitors notice an iOS status bar.
  • The iPad build is a scaled iPhone layout. You still upload a 13-inch canvas if iPad is a target, and you should decide whether that scaled UI is the picture you want on the store.
  • Text-heavy UI in another language. Recapture that locale. Icon-heavy screens can stay under a translated headline.

Play phone is its own canvas

The long side of 1290×2796 is about 2.17 times the short side. Play rejects screenshots whose long side is more than twice the short side. 1080×2160 sits on that limit and is the Android phone canvas to design on. 1080×1920 is the shorter 9:16 size Google names for featuring. Either can be a legal phone upload. Neither is an iPad file.

7-inch and 10-inch Play screenshots are optional for a phone launch. They use their own slots. If you leave them empty, tablet visitors see the phone images. Add them when the tablet UI is something you want credited on the store page. AppScreenPro does not export those tablet presets or the 1024×500 feature graphic.

What AppScreenPro exports

Pick the preset that matches the slot, then export a ZIP for that canvas. The practical set is iPhone 6.9-inch at 1290×2796, iPad 13-inch at 2064×2752, and Android phone at 1080×2160. Smaller iPad presets exist if you want a dedicated 12.9-inch or 10.5-inch file. Apple can scale from the large set, so those extras are optional.

Switching device size keeps the project in the browser. It does not invent an iPad layout from an iPhone capture. Swap the screenshot when the UI differs, nudge the frame, and export again. You still upload each ZIP yourself in App Store Connect or Play Console.

A simple checklist

  1. 01List where the binary actually runs: iPhone, iPad, Android phone, Android tablet.
  2. 02Write one slide story. Five frames is enough. Keep the same order on every store.
  3. 03Capture each layout that looks different. An iPad sidebar is a new screenshot, even when the headline stays.
  4. 04Export iPhone at 1290×2796. Export iPad at 2064×2752 if iPad is a target.
  5. 05Export Play phone at 1080×2160. Make the 1024×500 feature graphic separately.
  6. 06Check width and height on each file before you upload it to that slot.

iPhone, iPad, and Android screenshots FAQ

Can I use the same screenshots for iPhone and iPad?+

You can use the same story and the same headlines. You need a separate file for each slot. iPhone apps upload a 6.9-inch set (1290×2796 is the practical size). If the app runs on iPad, also upload a 13-inch set at 2064×2752 or 2048×2732. Those aspect ratios do not match, so an iPhone PNG is the wrong file for the iPad slot.

Does Apple scale iPhone screenshots onto iPad?+

No. Apple scales within the iPhone classes when you supply 6.9-inch screenshots, and within the iPad classes when you supply 13-inch screenshots. A universal app needs both sets.

Can I upload App Store screenshots to Google Play?+

Not the 6.9-inch iPhone file. 1290×2796 is taller than Play's rule that the long side can be at most twice the short side. Export a Play phone canvas such as 1080×2160, and add a 1024×500 feature graphic. Play has no equivalent of that banner on the App Store.

Do I need iPad screenshots for an iPhone-only app?+

Upload the 13-inch set when the app runs on iPad. An iPhone-only target does not add that slot. If you turn iPad on later, Connect will ask for the 13-inch images even when the iPad UI is a scaled phone layout.

Do I need separate Android tablet screenshots?+

Not to publish a phone listing. Play keeps 7-inch and 10-inch as their own slots, with a 1080px to 7680px range and a 9:16 or 16:9 ratio. Phone images are what tablet visitors see if those slots are empty. Add tablet shots when the large-screen layout is part of the product.

What does AppScreenPro export for each platform?+

iPhone 6.9-inch at 1290×2796, iPad 13-inch at 2064×2752 (plus smaller iPad presets), and Android phone at 1080×2160. It does not export a Play 7-inch or 10-inch tablet preset, a 1024×500 feature graphic, or the optional 1320×2868 iPhone size.

Export each canvas on its own

Pick iPhone 6.9-inch, iPad 13-inch, or Android phone, then download a ZIP for that slot.
