Guide
Google Play screenshot sizes in 2026
Play Console does not give you a single iPhone-style pixel pair. Phone screenshots must fall in a range, stay at or under a 2:1 aspect ratio, and ship as JPEG or 24-bit PNG with no transparency. You also need a 1024×500 feature graphic before the listing can publish. Tablet, Wear, TV, and XR slots are separate.
Last updated September 1, 2026. Figures checked against Google's preview asset help. Google can change these. Confirm in Play Console before you ship a release.
The short version
- Phone listing: JPEG or 24-bit PNG, no alpha, 320 to 3840px per side, long side at most twice the short side.
- Practical portrait canvas: 1080×2160. Featuring recommendation: 1080×1920 (9:16) or 1920×1080 (16:9).
- You cannot publish without a 1024×500 feature graphic.
- At least two screenshots to publish. Max eight per device type. Do not reuse a 1290×2796 App Store file.
Phone screenshot sizes
Play does not name phones the way App Store Connect names 6.9-inch and 6.5-inch classes. One phone slot takes any image that fits the range and the 2:1 rule. That is why a 1080×1920 file and a 1080×2160 file can both be valid, and why a 1290×2796 iPhone export is not.
| Display | Portrait | Landscape | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Phone (publish)Play Console phone slot | Any size 320 to 3840px per side; long side ≤ 2× short side | Same range, typically 16:9 such as 1920×1080 | Min 2 screenshots across device types. Max 8 per type. JPEG or 24-bit PNG, no alpha. |
| Phone (featuring)Homepage and large-format recommendations | 9:16, minimum 1080×1920 | 16:9, minimum 1920×1080 | Highly recommended, not the publish floor. Apps: at least 4 shots at 1080px+. Games: at least 3. |
| Phone (practical)Modern tall Android phones | 1080×2160 (exactly 2:1) | 2160×1080 | Valid under the 2:1 cap. What AppScreenPro exports today. |
How many
Two screenshots across device types is the publish floor. Eight is the cap per type. Four 1080px shots in 9:16 or 16:9 is the featuring bar for apps.
Format
JPEG or 24-bit PNG. No alpha. Flatten rounded corners onto an opaque background before upload.
Copy
Taglines should stay under 20% of the image. Skip download CTAs and ranking claims such as "Best" or "#1".
Feature graphic, icon, and TV banner
The feature graphic is not a screenshot. It is a 1024×500 banner used as a cover for your preview video, in ads, and in large-format collections. Keep the logo, name, and slogan away from the edges. Google crops those zones on some surfaces.
| Asset | Size | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Feature graphic | 1024×500 | Required to publish. JPEG or 24-bit PNG, no alpha. |
| Hi-res icon | 512×512 | Required. 32-bit PNG with alpha, max 1024 KB. |
| Android TV banner | 1280×720 | Required only for TV-enabled apps. |
AppScreenPro does not export a 1024×500 feature graphic yet. Build that banner separately. Do not drop a phone mockup into it. Google asks you to avoid device imagery on the feature graphic because it dates quickly and fights the app icon.
1080×2160 vs 1080×1920
Both can be legal phone uploads. They are not interchangeable if featuring is the goal.
- 1080×2160 is exactly 2:1, the tallest ratio Play allows. It matches many modern Android captures. AppScreenPro exports this size. It will upload.
- 1080×1920 is 9:16, the size Google names for screenshot-based featuring (with 1920×1080 for landscape). Use this if you are optimizing for Play homepage collections, not only the listing page.
- 1290×2796 is an App Store 6.9-inch file. 2796 is more than twice 1290, so Play should reject it. Recreate the deck.
Tablet and Chromebook sizes
Large-screen slots are optional for a phone-only listing. If you skip them, tablet and Chromebook users still see phone assets, often cropped or letterboxed. Google asks for 9:16 or 16:9 files between 1080px and 7680px per side, and at least four shots if you want those surfaces featured.
| Display | Portrait | Landscape | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7" tabletPlay Console 7-inch tablet slot | 9:16, each side 1080 to 7680px | 16:9, each side 1080 to 7680px | Up to 8. At least 4 if you want large-screen featuring. |
| 10" tabletPlay Console 10-inch tablet slot | 9:16, each side 1080 to 7680px | 16:9, each side 1080 to 7680px | Same pixel range as 7-inch. Do not reuse a stretched phone PNG. |
| ChromebookPlay Console Chromebook slot | 9:16, each side 1080 to 7680px | 16:9, each side 1080 to 7680px | Landscape 16:9 matches laptop browsing. At least 4 for featuring. |
Full canvas vs the phone screen
Same trap as App Store Connect. The pixels Google lists are the size of the file you upload. If you add a background, headline, or device mockup, those live on that canvas. Wear OS is the exception: Google wants the watch UI only, with no frame or extra art.
Device captures are source photos. Place them on a 1080×2160 (or 1080×1920) marketing canvas, then export that canvas. Do not send the inner glass at 1080×2400 if that breaks the 2:1 rule.
Why uploads get rejected
- Ratio too tall. 1290×2796 fails the 2:1 cap. Crop or redesign on a Play canvas.
- Transparency. 24-bit PNG with alpha, or a checkerboard background, fails.
- Missing feature graphic. Screenshots alone do not unlock publish.
- Only one screenshot. Play wants at least two across device types.
- Policy copy. Download now, #1, Best, or a tagline that covers more than 20% of the frame.
Sizes AppScreenPro exports
Studio has one Play-oriented canvas today: Android phone at 1080×2160. That is a valid phone upload. It is not a feature graphic, not 9:16 featuring, and not a 7-inch or 10-inch tablet set.
| Studio preset | Export | Play slot |
|---|---|---|
| Android phone | 1080×2160 | Valid Play phone size at the 2:1 ratio cap |
Wear OS, TV, Automotive, and XR
These slots only matter if you distribute to that form factor. AppScreenPro does not export them yet.
| Display | Portrait | Landscape | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wear OSWatch apps and watch faces | 1:1, minimum 384×384 | Same square frame | At least one shot of the watch UI only. No device frames, extra type, or transparency. |
| Android TVTV apps | Not used | At least one TV screenshot, plus a 1280×720 TV banner | Required before you can publish a TV-enabled app. TV shots show only on TV. |
| Android AutomotiveCar apps (not parked categories) | 800×1280 (at least 2) | 1024×768 (at least 2) | Use the generic Automotive emulator profiles. No OEM-specific car chrome. |
| Android XRXR headsets | Not used | 8:5, minimum 1920×1200, recommended 3840×2400 | 4 to 8 screenshots, PNG or JPEG, up to 8 MB each. |
A simple upload checklist
- 01Export phone screenshots as opaque JPEG or 24-bit PNG. No alpha.
- 02Stay inside 320 to 3840px per side, with the long side at most 2× the short side.
- 03Upload at least two phone shots. Add a 1024×500 feature graphic before you try to publish.
- 04Do not upload a 1290×2796 App Store file. Recreate the deck on a Play canvas.
- 05Spot-check width, height, and ratio in Preview or an image inspector before Play Console.
Google Play screenshot sizes FAQ
What size should Google Play screenshots be in 2026?+
For phones, each side must be between 320px and 3840px, and the long side cannot be more than twice the short side. A practical portrait canvas is 1080×2160 (exactly 2:1). Google also recommends 1080×1920 (9:16) if you want screenshot-based featuring. JPEG or 24-bit PNG, no transparency.
Is the Google Play feature graphic required?+
Yes. You cannot publish a store listing without a 1024×500 feature graphic. JPEG or 24-bit PNG, no alpha. Keep the focal point in the center. Edges get cropped on some Play surfaces.
How many Google Play screenshots do I need?+
A minimum of two screenshots across device types to publish, and a maximum of eight per device type. For screenshot-based featuring, Google wants at least four app screenshots at 1080px or larger in 9:16 or 16:9. Tablet featuring asks for at least four 7-inch or 10-inch shots.
Is 1080×2160 valid on Google Play?+
Yes. 2160 is exactly twice 1080, which is the limit of the 2:1 rule. It will upload. It is taller than the 9:16 featuring recommendation (1080×1920), so use 1080×1920 if homepage featuring is the goal.
Can I reuse App Store screenshots on Google Play?+
Not as-is. A 1290×2796 iPhone file is the wrong aspect ratio for Play (long side is more than 2× short side) and the wrong pixel pair. Export a Play canvas. The feature graphic has no App Store equivalent.
Do I need tablet screenshots on Google Play?+
Not to publish a phone app. If you skip them, tablet users still see phone assets. Add 7-inch and 10-inch sets (1080px to 7680px per side, 9:16 or 16:9) if the app is meant to look native on large screens. Four shots per large-screen type helps featuring.
